The moron curtain part 1

There are many kinds of curtains in the world  … I would like to tell you about a curtain you may have never expected to inhabit the world …. Once you understand more about moron curtains you will start to see them ….

 ….  everywhere  …

When I was young, I often heard of the people behind the  iron curtain  ….  During the cold war we referred to the people of the Soviet Union as behind the iron curtain.

I heard stories about what life was like over there….

I felt sorry for the people behind the iron curtain, because they had lost their freedom …. I had pity for people who were controlled by a dictatorship and enslaved by that evil communist government ….

I yearned to be able to rescue those people.

It was also said that the people of Communist China were behind the bamboo curtain …

I felt that all those folks behind the bamboo curtain had been bamboozled …..

is that where the term bamboozled came from? … it seems to fit ….

During the cold war the government of the USA and the government of the Soviet Union had very different ways of looking at things.  Both sides feared the other.  As a result the people feared.

………………..

The moron curtain is a term I made up to point out a problem is see all around me.  This problem is pervasive. It happens on a global scale from very large to very small. From nations and large institutions right down to individuals.

………………

It is a human tendency for folks to think they are right. Therefore people who don’t see things their way are wrong.

When someone disagrees with them  ….

Or, doesn’t see things their way  ….

Or, doesn’t accept their interpretation of the facts    ….

They get a little offended …

It becomes obvious to them that the other person is stupid.

…………………………

The moron title applies to people on either side of the curtain ….

Some folks think that folks on the other side of the curtain  are morons because they have different ways of thinking or doing things  …

………………………

People tend to view anyone on the other side of the curtain as morons … thus I call it the moron curtain …..

People who don’t agree with me are morons.

People who I don’t trust …. morons

People I fear   … morons

People who seem evil …. morons

……………………….

The truth of the matter is that folks have so much pride …

They see people who are different as less ….

………………..

Will the real moron please stand up.

Any time you think you are better than anyone else for any reason …. You are the real moron ….

You can be aware of your differences in skills ….

You can be aware of all kinds of difference

…. But ….

If you ever think that you have more value than another person, you are wrong ….

You are a wrong moron …..

By my definition, isn’t a moron wrong?  ….

Is a wrong moron worse than a regular moron?

Well yes ….

He is wrong about himself being better than another person ….

He may or may not be wrong about that upon which they disagree  ….

He may be right or wrong about the issue ….

It is more than likely, when it comes down to the issue, that both parties are part wrong and part right and a lot confused  …

………………………

I think that the curtain is really a mirror ….

Whenever we point at the people on the other side of the curtain and call them morons we are really pointing at a mirror.

The mirror is pride.

…………..

Sometimes we need to pick up the curtain and peek on the other side …. Try it you will be surprised  … the person on the other side of the curtain is a lot like you.

……………….

If you try to see that hideous thing from the other side of the curtain as your friend or as your brother you can start to understand him.

Understanding others viewpoints can instruct you in several ways

It may help you see how shallow your own understanding is

It may help you see how evil either viewpoint is

                                 Or

It may help you see the common desires of all mankind

It will likely make it easier to love the other person …. To love your enemy

You may create a strong bond with the other person

It may make you cry  ….  for many reasons

For their sadness …

for their lack of vision … or  .. for your own lack of vision ….

For your inability to reconcile  …

ect etc etc …………

……………

May I suggest a little iksperiment?

Take a peek under the curtain ….

Then sit back and enjoy the ride.
