Tomato Resistant Armor

The part about the shirt being tomato resistant  …. It isn’t false advertising … you can’t sue me ….   It is just an old advertising trick  …resistant is a good word without a precise definition …. It doesn’t take much to be resistant ….  a shirt doesn’t need to be very tough to resist a little tomato juice  … if I had said tomato proof you might have a case.

The Borg taught us that resistance is futile.

I don’t think that the Burger King is a real person … just another advertising trick ….. I suppose the King image was intended to add prestige.

The part about the armor was also an advertising trick … it was designed to make you curious so you would read the rest of the post.

There may be someone out there who would like to throw decomposing tomatoes at the author …. Perhaps I do need Tomato resistant armor.

Who are The Borg …. That came from Star Trek …  The Borg were some socialistic civilization where everyone’s minds were controlled by the collective … their motto was  …. “Resistance is futile, you shall be assimilated”

I recommend that you not be assimilated …. Assimilated people don’t make a very good audience.

New Fact Checker Page

It seems that certain individuals have been uncertain about certain things that have been written in certain posts … in an effort to make it easier for certain uncertain persons  … I am instituting a fact checker …. If any uncertain individuals would like to become certain about the facts  …. You may check the fact checker page and find the section for that particular post ….. many things may be explained  ….  vague references from bygone eras ….  Unscientific explanations of scientific phenomenon  ….. definitions of some obscure words  …. Checked facts about my checkered past ….  And  …. Whatever else I decide to put in there …. there will also be information about things which are not actual facts  … things like made up stuff, fabrications and fibrications.

This whole fact checking apparatus will also facilitate the writing process of the author … I won’t need to be so careful … I can throw in any obtuse reference I want  …. kind of selfish of me isn’t it  … I will have the peace of mind of knowing that any of you can consult the fact checker and relieve your anxieties … yes you can become certain about certain uncertain things  ….

All previous posts have now been fact checked  … they were fact checked by the person with the greatest knowledge about the posts  …. Me  … I found them to be quite accurate  …. And … in the cases where they were not accurate there was a good reason

If things get real bad we might be forced to fact check the fact checker

All the stuff about b-staging and pre-preg is real stuff

The stuff about cold tar  …. Well there may have been a little fibrication there ….

There was an old saying that someone or something was “slower than cold tar” ….

Tar does run slower as it cools ….  It appears to stop  …. And it does stop if it is cold enough  ….

The idea of the flow rate going into negative numbers and flowing uphill or backwards is a mathematical farce  …. It doesn’t really happen  …. I thought it was funny….

As tar gets colder it will just get more hard and more brittle  …. Kind of like steel … it you get steel cold enough  …. Way below the glass transition temperature of steel  … the steel becomes brittle and can shatter like glass  …. And that my friend is way colder than slow tar.

Laws of Physics verified by a balloon thermometer

The incidents described in this post really happened.

The offset is the difference between the thermometer reading and the actual temperature

There was a line about the thermometer knowing something … thermometers don’t really know stuff … I just put that in there as an attempt at humor and to keep the reader awake.

The line about natural selection was meant as a joke …. I realize that natural selection is something that only happens within a species … thermometer is not a species.

The line about city people wasn’t to malign people from any particular city  …. I was just drawing on broad generalities of differences between people who mostly live in cities  or mostly live in rural settings  … I think I am getting into a deeper hole ….

The next lines make it obvious that I had been online to look at temperatures …. I guess that may behavior I learned while living in some of the biggest cities in the world

I trust my thermometers more than I trust the online weather guesses …. Over the years I have documented that the guesses are usually higher than what I experience at my house  …. I have some temperature loggers that I use to record what actually happened … besides that I have some knowledge about where the online data comes from ….  They just get data from NASA’s weather satellites and use computer models and historical information to predict the future temperatures  …. The predictions also cover a wide area

Two pictures of the frozen thermometer …. You will notice that the inside thermometer shows the needle exactly above the freezing point  …. The zero is obscured  …. In the outside picture you can see the zero …. The needle is really in the same place … the outside picture was shot from an angle so you can see the zero …. That is a good example of parallax …. Parallax is good to know about when a disagreement about the speedometer in a car comes up ….

The beet stuff is mostly true except the part about warts and zits …. Warts and zits grow on people not on beets  … I just used that as a literary device to add interest …. (not the kind of interest that banks charge)

I don’t know the real names of beet deformities  …  I have seen beet deformities and know that they exist

Beets don’t go through puberty … mammals do have puberty … I don’t think other animals do

The mark of the beets was a word play on the “mark of the beast” that is talked about in the Bible  … in the book of Revelation

First post    ….  E coli and mud marbles

E coli is real

It is one of the coliform bacteria

It is a very common bacteria

A few strains of E coli are dangerous and can cause food poisoning

Most strains of E coli are harmless

There are zillions of them in your digestive tract

E coli help your digestion and some strains produce vitamin K

There are zillions of them in your poop

(zillions is a vague word that means lots of millions or billions or trillions, etc)

Water analysts count coliform bacteria to determine contamination levels

Large quantities of coliform bacteria indicate fecal contamination which indicates that other harmful bacteria may be present.  So don’t drink it.

Emily Post was from a bygone era …. She thought herself to be an authority on manners

The part about eating the whole earth is sort of true … let me explain …. If a mass of  bacteria food was as big as the whole earth …. And … conditions were right …. They could reproduce enough to consume the whole mass in a short time  …. This doesn’t happen in real life because the designer knew about bacterial appetites … he put lots of inhibitors in the system … the main inhibitors are acids and carbon dioxide  …. These are waste products from bacteria’s lunch … in other words … the bacteria poop gets concentrated ….  the bacteria lose their appetite … they can’t eat or reproduce ….  they just wait around till it rains or something else happens  to dilute the soup … with lower concentrations of waste products the bacteria start to eat and reproduce … it is a wonderful design

I will give more explanations when I write about pickle experiments.

I don’t really know how long it takes after a virus attacks a cell before it  turns it into a virus factory  … I am speculating that it takes a lot longer than 20 minutes …. I need to do more research on this item
